11 Ways to Remove Dark Spots From Your Face

Michelle by Michelle
June 27, 2022

Some people have dark spots on their faces or anywhere else on their bodies. They are hard to cover up with makeup. There are two main reasons why people get them.

One is if they had a scar, and it made it darker. The second is if they got sunburned and the skin became too dark for some reason, like because of an illness or something else that happened that made them more sensitive to the sun’s rays.

There are many different ways to remove dark spots from the face, depending on what is causing the dark spot and your skin type.

Reducing stress levels and eating healthy may help; if it’s caused by sun damage or inflammation, using some available kitchen ingredients can do your job efficiently.

Remove Dark Spots From Your Face or Skin Using These 11 Home Remedies

1. Papaya

The benefit of papaya for removing dark spots is that they contain the enzyme papain, which helps dissolve the protein in our skin and promote exfoliation.

Find a bowl. Put mashed, sweet papaya in it. Apply the papaya to your skin. When the papaya is on your skin, rub it in circles until it dries. Rinse with water and dry off afterwards.

2. Lemon juice

Lemon juice is beneficial for reducing dark spots and blemishes on the skin. It helps promote skin renewal and evens out skin tone. It also contains vitamins A and C, which can help reduce inflammation and prevent future breakouts.

Applying a pack with lemon juice will help someone with oily acne-prone skin and dark spots. Make a face mask of one tablespoon honey and one tablespoon lemon juice. Leave it on for 15 minutes, and then rinse it off.

3. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a plant with many medicinal uses, most famously for skincare due to its ability to heal damaged or sunburnt skin. It can also be used to treat insect bites, minor cuts, and burns (source).

If you want to remove dark spots using aloe vera, apply the gel on the skin for half an hour before bathing or showering. After 30 minutes, wash off with your regular body soap. Do this once every week to see results within a month.

4. Yogurt

Yogurt is a dairy product containing Lactobacillus acidophilus, a bacterium that can protect against infections. In addition to this, it contains lactic acid, which moisturizes the skin and lightens the dark spots (source).

Yogurt provides moisture and exfoliates your skin while also removing excess oil from your pores.

Mix one tablespoon of yogurt, one teaspoon of lemon juice, and half a banana. Mash up the banana & ingredients into a smooth paste, then spread the mixture on your face gently.

Avoid getting it near your eyes because it can irritate. Wash off after five minutes with warm water.

5. Honey

Honey has many moisturizing properties that help to ease dryness and moisturize the skin. It also has antibacterial properties that can help remove excess dead skin cells and prevent breakouts.

Mix three tablespoons of honey with one tablespoon of sugar to make a scrub.

Apply it to your face, rub in circles for about five minutes, rinse off with warm water, and pat your skin dry.

6. Cucumber

Cucumbers have natural astringent properties that can help reduce pore size, making them an effective way to get rid of dark spots on the face (source).

Peel a cucumber and mash it up into a pulp, then apply the pulp onto your skin with circular motions for five minutes before letting it sit for another five minutes. Rinse off with warm water and pat dry your skin afterwards.

7. Tomato

Tomatoes contain a large quantity of the antioxidant lycopene, which reduces melanin in the skin and prevents dark spots from forming on the face.

It also has properties that help remove dead cells from the top layer of the skin, which prevents them from being exposed to sunlight and turning dark (source).

Apply a small amount of tomato juice on your face for 10 minutes before rinsing it off with lukewarm water. You can also use a cotton pad to apply the liquid onto your skin instead if you want less mess. This is most effective when done before bedtime.

8. Sugar

Sugar has natural exfoliating properties, which can help remove the top layer of dead skin cells, revealing newer skin beneath it. This helps brighten up dark spots and reduce their appearance.

Combine one tablespoon of sugar with two tablespoons of milk to make a scrub paste. Apply this onto your face and rub in small circles for about five minutes before rinsing off with warm water.

9. Orange Peel

Orange peels can be used to make a natural scrub that will remove dead skin cells, exfoliate the pores, and brighten up dark spots on the face. This is effective for any skin type since it’s made with natural ingredients.

Mix one teaspoon of orange peel powder, three teaspoons of milk, and one tablespoon of honey to make a scrub paste. Apply the mixture on your face for five minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Pat your skin dry after you’re done.

10. Toothpaste

Toothpaste can help remove dark spots on the face caused by acne since it has ingredients that remove excess oil and kill bacteria. This method is similar to using lemon juice on your skin; it might feel a little more uncomfortable because of the minty taste in toothpaste.

Gently spread some toothpaste on your dark spots using a cotton pad, then let it sit for five minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water. Use this method once a day to see results within two weeks.

11. Almond Oil

Almond oil is commonly used as an ingredient in natural skincare because of its high vitamin E content. It also contains minerals that can help moisturize the skin and reduce inflammation caused by acne, which will help remove dark spots.

Almond oil works to provide moisture to the skin and keep it hydrated throughout the day. One of the best things about almond oil is that it’s easily absorbed into the skin, so there’s no greasy residue left behind. This leaves you with soft, glowing skin after using almond oil.

Conclusion

It’s important not to stay stagnant with one remedy, though- mix things up now and then so as not to create an unhealthy dependence on a single method.

For example, try using one ingredient for a few days, then switch to another way the following week. You may also try skin-lightening products. You may read my review of the Zeta White skin lightening kit here.

The darker the spot is on your skin, the longer it will take to fade away, so patience is vital. As long as you’re consistent with whatever remedy you’re trying, results should appear within two weeks.

The best and easier way to have clear skin is to drink enough water daily. There are many benefits of drinking water for your skin.

If you have sensitive skin, it is best to consult with your dermatologist before trying out the remedies listed above. It’s also wise to carry out a patch test on a small skin area first to ensure you don’t have any bad reactions with whichever method you are using.

These are just some of the most effective home remedies for lightening dark spots on the face. We hope they help you out.
