How to Remove Tartar From Teeth At Home

Tartar is a type of gunk that you can get on your teeth. It might be hard to clean. If it does get there, then the tartar can cause cavities in your teeth and other things like tooth decay. Brushing and flossing are important so tartar doesn’t build up on your teeth.

Even if you take good care of your teeth at home, bacteria can still grow in your mouth. These bacteria mix with food and leftover stuff to form a sticky film called dental plaque. This gunk coats your teeth and gets under the gum line of teeth. Plaque carries bacteria that can damage tooth enamel and lead to cavities, which is bad because it will make you lose your teeth over time. But if you remove the plaque regularly, then this will not happen.


If plaque stays on your teeth, it can harden into tartar. Tartar is a hard coating that forms under and above your gum line. It is rough and porous, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. You should go to the dentist’s office if you have tartar so they can take it off of your teeth with special tools.

When you don’t take care of your teeth, problems can arise. If your health is bad and you don’t take care of your teeth, it could worsen. People with diabetes or heart trouble will have a hard time if they don’t do anything about their teeth. The best way to take care of these problems is to brush and floss your teeth every day and see the dentist regularly so that plaque doesn’t build upon them.

You can remove plaque from your teeth. Here are some ways of how to do this:

Brushing Regularly and Carefully: Brushing your teeth should be done twice a day for 2 minutes each time. Scrubbing for 30 seconds doesn’t remove plaque or prevent tartar from forming. Choose a brush with soft bristles that are small enough to fit in your mouth, and make sure you brush all the hard-to-reach surfaces behind your teeth and on the rear molars. Then you will have less plaque and tartar build-up on the teeth. You can easily remove these by brushing in a circular motion. Make sure to brush every tooth in the mouth.

Fluoridated Toothpaste: Toothpaste that has fluoride helps reduce tooth decay from acidic food. When you have decayed teeth, they can be healed with this type of toothpaste. Fluoride makes teeth healthier and helps them feel better. You only need to do this every day and it will help you get rid of tooth decay that comes from eating acid food.

Baking Soda: This is one of the old ways to clean your teeth. This will work best if you brush your teeth with baking soda and salt. You need just a little of each. Add some salt with the baking soda, and brush your teeth. Rinse out the mouth very well after brushing.  Brush your teeth well after using this mixture so that it gets all the plaque and tartar off.

Orange Peel: If you want to have clean teeth, rub the orange peel on your teeth. This will remove all of the small organisms that develop on teeth. Applying this to a stained area can really help whiten your teeth a lot.

Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera is good for teeth. To make it, add one teaspoon of Aloe Vera gel, four teaspoons of glycerin, and five tablespoons of water to a bowl. Add lemon essential oil and mix well. Put it on your toothbrush and brush your teeth with it every day until you see the tartar coming off. This should be done every day to get rid of plaque and tartar from your teeth.

Watch Your Diet:  The bacteria in your mouth release bad acids when they are exposed to sugary and starchy foods. Try to eat a healthy diet and limit the number of sugary foods you eat. That goes for snacks, too. Every time you eat, you also feed the bacteria in your mouth with more sugar. You don’t have to give up sweets or between-meals munches; just be mindful about how often you indulge. Brush and drink plenty of water during meals and after meals, too!

Vitamin C-rich Food: Vitamin C is good food for your teeth. This can get rid of the bacteria on your teeth to a large extent. Strawberries and tomatoes are good sources of Vitamin C, so you can eat these foods or put them on your teeth for a few minutes. You should do this regularly or every other day to get better results.

Figs: Figs are good for cleaning your teeth. You can chew them to get rid of bacteria and plaque. These are helpful for preventing the accumulation of antibacterial properties in your teeth.

Electric Toothbrushes: Studies have found that electronic, or powered, toothbrushes may get rid of plaque better than manual toothbrushes. No matter what type you use, be sure it has the American Dental Association (ADA) seal of approval. These are tested to make sure they are quality and safe.
