Ashwagandha is an ancient medicinal herb. It can help your body manage stress. Ashwagandha also provides many other benefits for your body and brain. For example, it can help with depression, anxiety, lower blood sugar levels and boost brain function.

ashwagandha

Ashwagandha is a herb that people use in Ayurvedic medicines. It can treat many different things, including mental and physical health. The herb is also known to be beneficial for women of all ages.

Ashwagandha is good for people, but it is not good for pregnant women. It can cause a miscarriage. If you are pregnant or nursing, do not take ashwagandha because it could affect your baby (source). Ashwagandha may also interact with other medicines that you are taking, so talk to your doctor before taking it.

Here are 7 benefits of ashwagandha. These benefits are supported by science.

1. Reduces Blood Sugar Levels

Women can get diabetes from hormonal problems. Hormones change, especially during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, and PCOD. Ashwagandha helps with sugar cravings and controls the body’s sugar levels.

Some studies show that ashwagandha lowers blood sugar levels. One test-tube study found that it increased insulin secretion and improved insulin sensitivity in muscle cells (source). Also, several human studies suggest that it can reduce blood sugar levels in both healthy people and those with diabetes (source). Additionally, a 4-week study in people with schizophrenia showed that those treated with ashwagandha had an average reduction in fasting blood sugar levels of 13.5 mg/dL compared to 4.5 mg/dL for those who received a placebo (source).

2. Helps in Weight Loss

If you are stressed and gaining weight, then ashwagandha can help. A study published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine found that this herb helps manage stress by reducing psychological and physiological markers of stress, a low cortisol level, and food cravings. This makes it easier to eat better. And that will lead to more weight loss (source). Also, Ashwagandha is a natural alternative to steroids for bodybuilding.

3. Boosts Sex Life

The herb will help you feel better. It can help with mental stress and depression. It also helps blood flow which helps people be more energetic. The herb can also make people want to have sex, so it is used as an aphrodisiac. A study published in the Natural Medicine Journal says that the herb could help women with sexual dysfunction, improving their desire for sex and orgasmic ability. (source)

4. Menopause-Related issues

During menopause, your body will have a hard time because of changes to hormones. You may feel things like hot flashes, stress, and trouble sleeping.

If someone you know is having a hard time with menopause, there is help. Ashwagandha can help with hormone problems during menopause. It works on your endocrine system to offer relief from symptoms like mood swings and hot flashes.

Ashwagandha is a plant that can help reduce these problems because it helps with hormone balance. If you are close to menopause, you should start using ashwagandha regularly. (source)

5. Relief From Stress and Anxiety

The research about ashwagandha is the most promising for stress. A study conducted in September 2019 found that people who took 240 mg of ashwagandha extract saw a significant decrease in mental stress compared with those who took a placebo. (source)

6. Sleep

Ashwagandha can help you sleep better. It might make you feel more relaxed, and it might make people sleepy. But maybe that’s a good thing! A study done with 60 people found that those who took ashwagandha reported sleeping better than those who did not take ashwagandha. (source)

7. Hair Problems

We love our hair, and we worry when we lose it. Ashwagandha is good for you because it helps to relieve stress, which causes hair loss. Ashwagandha also helps with dry scalp and dandruff. It can stop your hair from getting grey early, without using chemicals (source). You can also try these natural hair growth supplements to fight your hair loss problems.
